Footnotes: Provenance Courtesy of the artist Artist statement: Casey Baden (b. 1991, Houston, Texas) explores the many modes of connection, relationship, transformation, and intimacy through expressionistic paintings and boldly colored textiles. Her narrative paintings combine the visual languages of figuration and abstraction, while fusing corporeal, decorative, historical, and mythic symbols. Many of the works depict quotidian scenes that center on the body and communal experience but are infused with a perspective of dreaminess and allegory. Inspired by a diverse array of source material as well as personal experience, she investigates themes of vitality and sexuality, rituals of love, and the theatricality of gender.
