LARRY BELL (B. 1939) Fraction #7843, 2000 signed and dated (lower center) collaged coated paper and mylar on paper 10 x 10 in. 25.4 x 25.4 cm. Footnotes: Provenance Courtesy of the artist Artist statement: Larry Bell is one of the most renowned and influential artists to emerge from the Los Angeles art scene of the 1960s, alongside contemporaries Ed Ruscha and Robert Irwin, and had garnered international repute by the age of 30. Known foremost for his refined surface treatment of glass and explorations of light, reflection and shadow through the material, Bell's significant oeuvre extends from painting and works on paper to glass sculptures and furniture design. The 'Fractions' are a large body of small works on paper that Larry Bell made using collaged bits of coated paper and mylar. Each 'Fraction' is composed of one or more 3×3' shards of the larger compositions fused to a 10×10' substrate. The process involves a laminate press; heat and pressure loosen deposits of paint and thin-film coating, resulting in unpredictable wispy gestural lines and flowing forms. Bell began the series in 1996. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
