Boîte en écaille, or et composition, XVIIe, à miniature sur ivoire figurant une allégorie, signée Sumptoi A late 18th century tortoiseshell, lacquer and gold portrait box, miniature signed Sumpto Round shaped, the lid is set with a miniature on ivory, depicting an allegory of water, signed 'Sumptoi'. The artist may have been Jean François de Sompsois (1720-1808), a French painter and draughtsman specialising in pastels, diameter 7.8cm, weight (gross) 84gms.
