Attributed to Nicolas Fouché (Troyes 1653-1733 Paris) Flore ; Iris une paire, huile sur toile, de forme ronde a pair, oil on canvas, round shaped 61.9 x 61.9cm (24 3/8 x 24 3/8in). (2) Footnotes: Provenance With Galerie Bailly, Paris, 1990 First trained in the workshop of his father Léonard, Nicolas entered the Académie de Saint Luc in 1679 where studied under Pierre Mignard (1612-1695), gaining a solid foundation in the classical techniques of the French Baroque. His education included studying the use of light and shadow, dynamic composition, and detailed rendering of figures and landscapes. Fouché became known for his ability to bring mythological and allegorical subjects to life, creating vivid and engaging scenes. His paintings often feature detailed natural elements and expressive human figures, reflecting the artistic trends of the Baroque period. It has been suggested that the present paintings are part of the allegorical representations of the four elements: Iris would represented the Air, while flore the Earth.
