AN ENGLISH BASKET HILT CAVALRY BACKSWORD, c. 1760-65. The large iron basket with pierced and reeded panels, massive conforming pommel, spiral carved wood grip with twisted brass wire wrapping; straight single-edge blade with long false edge, single narrow and single wider fuller. Overall lg. 34, overall lg. 40 3/4 in. Condition: Hilt is toned to brown with light overall pitting, grip missing leather wrapping and wood has scattered insect holes; blade is toned to brown but shows evidence of old cleaning.
