AN AMERICAN FLINTLOCK MILITARY MUSKET, possibly New England, second half of the 18th century. 42 3/4 in., .74 caliber unmarked round barrel; early Dutch lock with curved and convex surface plate and large cock and steel; walnut stock with relief carved plateau and shell around the breech plug tang; iron early French-style butt plate and trigger guard, no side plate, one iron and one brass rammer pipe, wood rammer. Overall lg. 59 1/4 in. Condition: Iron parts toned to deep brown; stock has sliver losses along the forward part of the barrel channel and evidence of a long-missing barrel band, old surface; the cock on the lock is quite loose but lock functions properly.
