Description
A BRITISH PATTERN 1769 SHORT LAND SERVICE MUSKET WITH AMERICAN MARKINGS, c. 1769-77. 41 1/2 in., .80 caliber Ordnance barrel with worn Tower Ordnance proof marks on the top of the breech and asterisk over 'IO' barrel maker's mark on the left side; proper lock marked 'TOWER' on the tail and with crown over 'GR' and crowned broad arrow mark below the pan; walnut stock with proper brass furniture, the thumb piece with American engraved mark '1st Co/N-2'; later steel rammer. Overall lg. 57 1/2 in. Condition: Barrel toned to dark brown with light pitting at the vent area; lock toned to gray with worn pan and top jaw with period alteration; stock spliced just forward of the entry pipe and with a small wood loss at forward end of lock mortice and associated cracks, action functions properly.
