A 'US' SURCHARGED FRENCH MODEL 1763/66 INFANTRY MUSKET, Charleville, late 1760s. 44 3/4 in., .70 caliber round barrel marked 'US' on the left side of the breech; flat lock plate with pointed tail, marked below the pan with a star over 'D' and 'Charleville'; walnut stock and iron furniture of proper form for the pattern, later steel rammer. Overall lg. 59 1/2 in. Condition: Iron toned to mottled brown with scattered spots of pitting; stock has scattered dings and dents especially at the butt and a crack on the right side at the middle barrel band spring, action functions properly.
