Description
A SCOTTISH INFANTRY OFFICER'S BASKET HILT BROADSWORD, second quarter of the 18th century. The hilt with pierced panels and 'S' scroll decoration, converging under a domed pommel, ray skin covered grip with twisted iron wire wrapping; straight double-edge blade with long narrow fuller, the tall ricasso with etched crown device on each side and a crown over crossed scepters-style cartouche near the hilt. Blade lg. 35, overall lg, 40 1/2 in. Condition: Hilt has a couple minor cracks and splits, grip wrapping is very good; blade toned to mottled gray, lower edge of blade has numerous nicks for nearly the entire length.
