A FLINTLOCK BRITISH OFFICER'S FUSIL, c. 1770s. 42 3/8 in., barrel with engraved foliate decoration at the breech and barrel maker's marks on the left side; convex lock plate with foliate engraved pointed tail and engraved 'GALTON' below the pan; walnut stock with carving at the rear of the lock mortice and side plate, and carved plateau with shell decoration around the breech plug tang; engraved brass furniture including a butt plate with stepped and pointed tang, Land Pattern-style thumb piece, trigger guard with acorn finial, flat side plate with long tail, brass rammer pipes and later steel rammer. Overall lg. 57 3/4 in. Condition: Barrel toned to brown and likely reconverted, lock toned to brown and likely reconverted, stock spliced between second and third rammer pipes, trigger guard likely partially restored, side plate is a restoration, action functions properly.
