Desmond Morris (British, born 1928) The Companion stamped with monogram and numbered '4/8' (on the middle leg) bronze with a brown patina 31.8 cm. (12 1/2 in.) high Conceived in 2020 Footnotes: Provenance The Artist, from whom acquired by the present owner Private Collection, U.K. Morris's earliest engagements with three-dimensional art date back to the 1940's and works such as the object painting War Woman 1949 (National Galleries of Scotland). In the 1970s he produced his first sculptures in bronze, such as Fertility Figure (a cast of which was sold in these rooms 16 December 2020). The present work, and lot 44, belong to a series of works in which Morris revisited motifs from across his earlier-two dimensional output in three-dimensional forms. Buyers' Premium and Charges

28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
