A Chita Rivera Decorative Box Gifted to Her by Bob Fosse Sterling silver box, engraved, 'CHITA / WITH GRATITUDE AND LOVE / 'CHICAGO' / 1976'. Along with Bob Fosse's partnership with Gwen Verdon, his professional relationship with Chita Rivera was fortuitous for both of them. Making history together in 1975's Chicago with Verdon bonded them for life, and they retained a deep friendship. Fosse's direction and choreography has not only stood the test of time, it has become an iconic style of dance, one that is as much a part of Chita as it is Fosse. As Velma Kelly to Verdon's Roxie Hart, Chita made the role her own, and under Fosse's direction, thrived. 'It was all very joyous,' recalled Chita of her time with Fosse. Most people forget that the two worked together earlier, in the film, Sweet Charity (1969), which was directed by Fosse. Upon first meeting him, she remembered that he had his signature cigarette hanging out of his mouth but was 'very humble.' In the ultimate compliment to their working relationship, Chita recalled, 'We couldn't wait to get in there to get started. We loved what we were doing.' This box was gifted to Chita by Bob Fosse.
