GHANA, SIERRA LEONE AND THE GOLD COAST RAILWAY - PHOTOGRAPHY Two photograph albums, relating to building of the Gold Coast Railways, with images of the construction (bridge building, track laying, etc.) local inhabitants (Chief of Akropong, ju-ju man and woman, hairstyles), festivities relating to the Coronation of King Edward VII, land and seascapes, etc., together 123 mostly platinum prints (approx. 20 loose laid on linen, others loose mounted in the albums, some with light pencil annotation on verso or mount, some spotting), 50 approx. 163 x 215mm., others typically 160 x 110mm., contemporary cloth, corner of one upper cover damp-stained, oblong quarto (260 x 330mm.) and small oblong 8vo (180 x 225mm.), c.1900-1905 Footnotes: Images include portraits of locals (approx. 15, including the Chief of Akropong with his supporters, woman having hair styled, stylish men in European costume, a Kroo Ju-Ju woman, a Ju-Ju man), Kroo Boy dance, Fantee funeral procession and burial (5), festivities for the Coronation of Edward VII (procession of chiefs and children, races and tug-of-war for local inhabitants), views of Sekondi, the port and seascapes in Sierra Leone, Colonial groups 'up country', and the railways (engines, laying tracks, bridges, etc.). The images compiled by, and perhaps taken by, Captain Harry Adcock (his name and English address on verso on one image), who was stationed in West Africa working for the Gold Coast Government Railway. Gold was discovered at Tarkwa in the 1890s prompting the building of a railway from there to the coastal port of Sekondi, which was undertaken between 1898 and 1901, extending to Kumasi by 1903. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
