Attributed to Philip John Bainbrigge (British, 1817-1881) 'Melicent Indians: New Brunswick – In gala dresses dancing the Snake dance. April 1841' inscribed and dated as titled (verso) pencil and watercolour on paper 13.6 x 21.2cm (5 3/8 x 8 3/8in). Footnotes: Bainbrigge arrived in Canada on board the Arab transport on June 25, 1836, in time to take part in the military operations along the Richelieu River and at St. Eustache during the Rebellions of 1837-8. Bainbrigge travelled widely in Upper and Lower Canada and the Maritimes, reporting on fortifications and other defensive measures. He was assigned on special service duty concerning the Maine-New Brunswick boundary dispute and was acting adjutant from 1841 until his return to England on August 4, 1842. The Bainbrigge collection in the PAC [now Library & Archives Canada] comprises approximately 170 Canadian watercolours dating to this posting.' (W. Martha E. Cooke, W.H. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
