Penn), Penang (6), Singapore (10), and Siam/Thailand (23), albumen prints, 55 large (202 x 270mm.) mounted one per page, 25 half-page (approx. 135 x 215mm.) mostly mounted 2 per page, 12 smaller mounted 5 per page, printed captions on mounts (some corrected in pencil), contemporary calf-backed cloth, worn, lacks spine, oblong folio, [1880s] Footnotes: India views include Ootacamund/Ooty (11, including a 4-part panorama by A.T.W. Penn [see C. Penn, The Nicholas Brothers & A. T. W. Penn: photographers of South India 1855–1885, 2014, p.50]; a portrait group of Todas, and a view of a Toda village), Coonoor (1), Darjeeling (9, including 5 of St. Paul's School), Pondicherry pier (1), Kolkata (24, including 7 relating to the Calcutta Exhibition of 1883/4 with a view of the grounds, group portraits of the 'Native Exhibitors' and 'European Exhibitors', the entrance to the India Section, etc; and major buildings such as the Mint, Great Eastern Hotel, etc.), Agra and environs (12, smaller). From 28 June 2025, the import into the EU of non-EU property of a certain age (and in some categories above a certain value) is subject to additional requirements. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
