Louis Vuitton: a Monogram Cabin Trunk 1920-1930s Coated canvas with lozinated edges, corners, unpolished brass closures, 'Private Secretary to H.H the Maharaja of Alwar Rajputana India' is painted in yellow on the top. Features a dual-compartment design. The lock is stamped 'BTE S.G.D.G. PATENT, LOUIS VUITTON, MADE IN FRANCE' and numbered 036169, the interior labelled '1. Rue Scribe PARIS, LILLE 34. Rue Faidherbe, NICE 4. Jardin Public, 149 New Bond St. LONDON' and numbered 183460. 33cm high, 100cm wide, 54cm deep Footnotes: Jai Singh, the 7th Maharaja of Alwar, who ruled from 1892 to 1937, was an avid collector of luxury goods and was known for his extravagant spending, particularly on fine jewellery, luxury cars, and imported European items. He ascended the throne of Alwar at the age of 10 in 1892 after the death of his father. He is famously associated with the Rolls-Royce legend, where, after being rejected by a London showroom, he reportedly bought several cars and used them to collect garbage in Alwar as a show of protest. CONDITION REPORT Condition Grade C- Appears in fair pre-loved condition, with signs of use. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
