Sir Howard Hodgkin (British, 1932-2017) The Road to Rio, from Official Limited Edition Prints at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (not in Heenk) Screenprint in colours, 2016, on Somerset White Satin paper, signed with the initials, dated and numbered 118/350 in pencil (there were also 35 artist's proofs), printed by King & McGaw, Newhaven, published by Counter Editions, London, the full sheet Sheet 760 x 595mm (29 7/8 x 23 3/8in) Footnotes: Bold and euphoric, The Road To Rio captures the energy and spirit of Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Jungle-green, sand-yellow, and the blue of the Brazilian sky and sea are used in an exhilarating display of Hodgkin's painterly genius. The assertive washes of colour achieve maximum expression with limited means: Hodgkin's painterly restraint has increased with age. This meticulously crafted screen-print is built up from twenty-two separate layers of colour. The process creates both the thinnest translucent marks and the thickest textural strokes characteristic of Hodgkin's work. — Counter Editions Provenance Counter Editions, London, whereby purchased by the present owner, 5 August 2016. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
