CHINESE SCHOOL (CIRCA 1875) The Praya Grande, Macau Oil on canvas, depicting a view of the Praya Grande from the South, original carved wood frame. 43.5cm (17 1/8in) high x 72.5cm (28 1/2in) wide Footnotes: 中國畫派 約一八七五年 外銷澳門南灣 布面油畫 原裝木雕框 Provenance: Martyn Gregory, London, acquired April 2001 Published, Illustrated and Exhibited Martyn Gregory, Canton to the West: Historical pictures by Chinese and Western artists 1770-1870, catalogue 77, Hong Kong and London, 2001, pp.85-86, no.90. This view of Praya Grande, as seen from the West stretches all the way from Panha Hill and convent on the left, to Fort Monte on the right, with the Artillery Barracks, which were completed in 1873, helping to date the painting. The oil lamps for public lighting which can be seen on the point of the bay were installed in 1871. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
