GRANDE BOÎTE COUVERTE EN LAQUE ROUGE SCULPTÉE XVIIe siècle A LARGE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BOX AND COVER 17th century Of rectangular shape, the flat cover carved through thick layers of lacquer with a group of scholars and their acolytes gathered on the shores of a lake surrounded by distant mountains, wutong and plantain trees, beneath a gnarled pine hiding a deer and next to a large stone table with flower pots, the sides decorated with birds flying among leafy branches laden with different flowers, including camelias and peonies, the interior lacquered black. 37 cm (14 5/8 in.) wide x 23 cm (9 in.) deep x 12 cm (4 3/4 in.) high (2).
