A Rare 16-Bore Flintlock Silver-Mounted Officer's Pistol By Durs Egg, London, London Silver Hallmarks For 1788, Maker's Mark Of Michael Barnett With rebrowned twist barrel signed along the top flat, silver fore-sight, tang engraved with foliage and with a parrot on a palm leaf, gold-lined touch-hole, signed flat border engraved lock (cock replaced) decorated with a starburst behind the pan, a bird, and with foliage on the stepped tail, figured full stock with horn fore-end cap and characteristic diamond-shaped chequering, silver mounts comprising escutcheon with owner's crest and monogram, butt-cap engraved with foliage, trigger-guard with foliate finial and engraved with a martial trophy on the bow, turned ramrod-pipes, and horn-tipped ramrod with steel worm, London proof marks 26.6 cm. barrel Footnotes: Durs Egg, son of Leonz Egg of Oberbuchsiten, Switzerland, was born in 1748 and, following a short stay in Paris, came to London and worked for John Twigg in 1772, was granted denization in 1791, and is recognised as one of the greatest London gunmakers. He was gunmaker to George IV and the Duke Of York, and was granted various patents during the course of his long and distinguished career. Examples of his work are preserved in the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle, and many other public and private collections. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
