1961/1959 Matchless/AJS 646cc Model G9A/DL Registration no. PJV 815 Frame no. A78125 Engine no. 59/31L X1845 The Matchless G9A was a British motorcycle produced in the late 1950s by Associated Motorcycles (AMC). As an evolution of the G9, the G9A featured a 498cc air-cooled parallel-twin engine, delivering improved performance and reliability. Built primarily for export, particularly to the U.S. market, the G9A combined solid engineering with classic British styling. It featured a dual exhaust, teardrop fuel tank, and a robust frame suited for touring and light competition. The bike was appreciated for its smooth power delivery and ease of maintenance, thanks to its pushrod valve system and dry-sump lubrication. Though it competed with rivals like Triumph and BSA, the Matchless G9A held its own due to AMC's reputation for quality craftsmanship. While not as famous as some contemporaries, it remains a respected classic among enthusiasts today, admired for its balanced ride, understated charm, and role in post-war British motorcycling history. This example was purchased by the current vendor in a basket case condition and restored to the condition its presented in today. It was started up upon completion of the restoration to ensure it ran and then drained of all fluids and stored therefore it will need careful recommissioning and running in before further use. Offered with a dating certificate from the AJS/Matchless Owners club which states the frame is from a 1961 Matchless G9A and the engine from a 1959 AJS Model DL. Offered with a V5C. Key not required Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
