Description
Giorgi Shengelia (Georgian, born 1984) Untitled silver gelatin 6.3 x 10cm (2 1/2 x 3 15/16in). Footnotes: Provenance Artist's Collection Gallery Fotoatelier Accidental Portraits (2020) is a series of photographs inspired by a tragedy. 'My family's photo archive was destroyed in a fire a long time ago. Only a small number of burnt, torn, partially destroyed photographs remained. These small nostalgic photos inspired me to work on a new genre that would evoke the same feelings as the photos that survived the fire. I try to create this mood in accidental portraits that I see every day. When I browse through my old family album and touch the photographs, I feel some exceptional energy condensed in them. I always wanted to recreate this very effect of palpable, intimate experience in my photography. That's the main reason I decided to print my shots under the red light. The darkroom is the best place for this type of experimentation. In this process, I am discovering a hidden, parallel world that is very dear to me, especially because we live in a digital era with a deficiency of tangible photography.' Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
