Katrina And The Waves: The Walking On Sunshine Fender Telecaster Electric Guitar, 1968, serial no. 240862 to neckplate, alder body with red re-finish, maple neck, white pickguard, headstock with six-a-side tuners, three-way selector, one bridge and one neck pickup, one volume and one tone control knob, in original Fender case with original travel and festival stickers on the outside, within case is the original bridge, spare strings, and a bridge cover, with two signed photographs, one by full band and one by Katrina, with signed letter of provenance, guitar 38 1/2in (98cm) long, (Qty) Footnotes: Provenance: This is the Fender Telecaster owned by Katrina which features in the video for the global hit Walking On Sunshine. Katrina bought this guitar on Denmark Street in 1983. The original finish was brown but was painted red by the Katrina And The Waves drummer to match his drum kit in the video. Released on April 15th 1985, 2025 marks the 40th Anniversary of Walking On Sunshine. The video was filmed in Wapping in London's Docklands: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPUmE-tne5U Katrina Leskanich, formerly of Katrina And The Waves: Katrina was born in Topeka, Kansas and moved to England in 1976. In 1983, Katrina joined 'The Waves', who later became Katrina And The Waves. Katrina and The Waves had their first big break in 1984 when The Bangles covered their song Going Down to Liverpool and they were subsequently signed by Capitol Records. The first Capitol album, Katrina & The Waves released in 1985, was a substantial critical and commercial success and 'Walking on Sunshine was a worldwide hit earning top ten spots around the globe. (No. 8 UK, No.9 US, No.3 Canada, No.4 Australia). Walking on Sunshine has been streamed over 900 million times on Spotify alone and Katrina & The Waves on Spotify have 6.2 million monthly listeners. The song has featured on many films over the years and has reached a truly global audience. In 1997 Katrina and the Waves' 'Love Shine a Light' won the Eurovision Song Contest with the largest ever margin, followed by an unprecedented four consecutive appearances on Top of The Pops and a No. 3 in the UK Charts. 27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
