Oasis: A large collection of photographs by Tom Sheehan (British, born 1950) from their 1994 tour to New York City, sold with copyright, July 1994, comprising approx. 250 black and white negatives and approx. 60 colour transparencies of Oasis in New York in 1994, including the 'Cocaine True, Cocaine Blue' image sequences, Liam in Times Square, The band posed on the Imagine mosaic in Central Park, with live performance images as well as numerous behind the scenes shots, this lot is sold with copyright via deed of assignment, (approx. 310 total) Footnotes: This selection of photographs documents Oasis in July 1994, on a trip to New York, the month before Definitely Maybe was released. These photographs are important in documenting Oasis on the brink of international success. This lot includes the well-known images of 'Cocaine True, Cocaine Blue'. The idea for the shots had come to Sheehan, upon finding the book in the hotel bookshop. Liam and Noel were both enthusiastic about the concept, but the images were not widely disseminated at the time, as the band's management were trying to prevent drawing further attention to the stories of their wild behaviour. Provenance: Offered directly by photographer Tom Sheehan (British, born 1950). Tom Sheehan is a renowned music photographer, who has most notably worked at CBS Records and also had the enviable position as chief photographer at Melody Maker, where he was regularly published for two decades. His photographs have been featured in NME, The Sunday Times, and Mojo magazine, amongst many others. His passion for both music and photography is perhaps the reason for his exceptional career and is evident in his captivating images, of musicians performing and of musicians in more candid, behind the scenes settings. Sheehan comments of his more editorial images, 'I don't like to get bands to do something daft... I don't work that way; I always work upfront and honest.' This authenticity is apparent within his photographs and is particularly representative of his work with Oasis. This is an important archive of images capturing the band in their early career. Literature: Please note that some of these images have been published in: Tom Sheehan's, Roll With It: Oasis in photographs 1994-2002, Wellbeck, London, 2025. Please contact the department for specific details of the images included in this lot.
