Baseball: A 1915 Boston Red Sox Team Photo Postcard - Babe Ruth's Rookie Season!, PSA 3, 1915, The 1915 Boston Red Sox completed the regular season with 101 wins and culminating with a World Series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. 1915 was Babe Ruth's first full season with the Boston Red Sox. Ruth was now playing on the biggest stage of his life at the youthful age of 20. His pitching prowess was a big reason for the 1st place finish in the American League division. His hitting was something that came about years later when Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee sold Ruth's contract to the New York Yankees. This photo postcard was produced prior to the Red Sox winning the Fall Classic in October 1915. Hence, the notation on the bottom that reads 'The Boston Red Sox-American League Champions- Season 1915.' Photo postcards were produced for fans to write a special note and mail to a close family member or friend. This photo postcard luckily was never used for this purpose. The blank back is crisp and remains unaddressed. Ruth is featured standing in the back row fifth from the right. Rookie pitcher Carl Mays is standing next to Ruth. They both left the Red Sox in 1920 to join the Yankees. In August of 1920, Mays beaned Ray Chapman who died 12 hours later at a local hospital. Chapman is the only MLB player to ever die from an injury received on the baseball diamond. There are also a few other Hall of Famer's on this illustrious squad. Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper and Herb Pennock. This photo postcard was issued in very small quantities around Fenway Park. Hard to image another one of these being discovered after 110 years. This postcard would be a crown jewel in any vintage card/postcard collector or Babe Ruth connoisseur. PSA has graded this photo postcard a PSA 3. Population of 2 at this level and only 6 graded higher. card 3 1/2 x 5 7/16 in.
