A SUPERB ASSOCIATION COPY OF LYKKENS BLOMST ANDERSEN, HANS CHRISTIAN. 1805-1875. Nye Eventyr. BOUND WITH: Lykkens Blomst. Eventyr-Comedie.... Copenhagen: C.A. Reitzel, 1845-1848; 1845. Together, 2 works, Nye Eventyr the first and second series comprising 5 pamphlets, all bound in one volume. 8vo (170 x 110 mm). Nye Eventyr: half-title, general title-page for the first series, section title-pages for parts 1-3 & 5, dedication leaves for parts 1-3 (without general title for the first part of the first series). Bound together in contemporary calf-backed cloth gilt, floral patterned endpapers, some overall wear and internal spotting. Provenance: Axel Fredstrup (presentation inscription from the author on the half-title of the first part); Herman Heilbuth (1861-1945, Danish collector, his stamp to endpaper). PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY ANDERSEN TO AXEL FREDSTRUP, A SUPERB ASSOCIATION. Fredstrup portrayed the fairy Nissen in Lykkens Blomst ('Flower of Happiness') in the play's 1845 debut at the Royal Theater (mentioned in the present copy on p 4). Fredstrup was later the subject of Andersen's poem 'Til Axel Fredstrup,' in which he remarks on Fredstrup's role in Lykkens Blomst, and remarks on their faithful friendship: 'Til Axel Fredstrup / med mine Eventyr / (Han havde i 'Lykkens Blomst'' været den lille Nisse) / Er 'Lykkens Blomst' end kastet hen, / Saa veed jeg dog tilvisse, / Jeg har en gammel trofast Ven, / Her i den lille Nisse.'
