Henry Dustin Memorial Painting Worcester County, Massachusetts, c. 1809 Square sheet of paper painted to depict a man and woman standing beneath a willow tree sheltering an elaborate sarcophagus raised on paw feet over a low plinth, the left side panel apparently made of glass, and the front bearing a plaque with inscription divided into two columns by a floral garland the woman holds in her outstretched right hand; it reads, 'In memory of Henry, only child of Alexander Dustin Esq & Mrs Sophia, his wife, who was born January 2nd 1807 and deceased March 21st 1809 - aged 2 years, two months and nineteen days. / Some messenger of God our door has pass'd, from earth returning, saw this beautiful flower... transported gather'd it, and in his hand, bore it to heaven, rejoicing.' unsigned watercolor, ink, and gouache on paper, mounted in glazed frame 17 1/2 x 16 3/4 in. framed 19 7/8 x 19 1/8 in. Note Henry Dustin (1807-9) was the son of Alexander Dustin (c. 1777-1837) and Sophia Foster Dustin (c. 1780-1862), who married in Harvard, Massachusetts, on 11 November 1805. Alexander graduated from Dartmouth College, where he was a member of the Society of Social Friends, and became a prominent cattle farmer in the town of Sterling. Henry appears to have remained the couple's only child, as Sophia is the sole heir listed in Alexander's will, dated 1836. 28% on the first $50,000 of the hammer price;
