[BYRON (GEORGE GORDON NOEL, LORD)] A Sketch from Private Life. March 30, 1816, FIRST EDITION, 4pp. on bifolium, dropped-head title, paper watermarked 'LAY/KENT 1814', a few light spots, held in blue cloth portfolio folding case by Riviere, gilt lettered on spine, 4to (250 x 200mm.), [Privately Printed], 1816 Footnotes: VERY SCARCE, with no copies traced on Rare Book Hub, and Wise noting that this poem 'is one of the rarest of the original editions of Byron's works. Fifty copies were printed in April 1816 but only four or five of these appear to survive to-day' (Wise, A Bibliography of the Writings... of George Gordon Noel, Baron Byron, vol. 1, 1932, pp.108-109). Having separated from his wife Annabella, Byron wrote two poems on 30 March 1816, 'Fare thee well' and this poem 'A Sketch from Private Life', which at his request were printed for private circulation by John Murray. Provenance: Oliver Nowell Chadwyck-Healey (1886-1960, bibliophile), armorial bookplate, and printed description, stating that 'This copy was given to me Lieut.-Colonel Sir John Murray, K.C.V.O. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
