An early Victorian ormolu mounted rosewood, sycamore and fruitwood marquetry writing table or bureau plat by Druce and Co. Circa 1850, in the Louis XV style The shaped gilt tooled leather inset top (losses to the leather) with a floral and scrolled acanthus inlaid border, above a shaped frieze incorporating two short mahogany lined drawers each inlaid with entwined ribbon tied floral and foliate branches, flanking one central mahogany lined drawer inlaid with a floral and foliate trail centred by two opposing c-scrolls and a shell, on square section cabriole legs, each drawer interior mounted with a die-cast brass plaque which reads: 'DRUCE & CO., UPHOLSTERERS & CABINET MAKERS, BAKER STREET, PORTMAN SQUARE, LONDON, W.', 125cm wide x 71cm deep x 74.5cm high, (49in wide x 27 1/2in deep x 29in high) Footnotes: Druce and Co. were a firm of cabinet makers and upholsterers who flourished during the period 1845-1902. They are documented, in an invoice dated 1845, as operating out of two London premises; one of which was based in Baker Street and the other located on King Street, Portman Square. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
