A fine Powell & Lealand No. 2 compound binocular/monocular microscope, English, dated 1869, signed POWELL & LEALAND, 170 Euston Road, London, the microscope with all original lacquer throughout, of standard No.2 bar-limb design, rack and pinion course focusing and lever and screw fine focusing, fully mechanical Turrel-type stage and sub-stage and plano/concave reflector, fitted mahogany case with all original and complete accessories including 1/12, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 in objectives in drum cases, monocular tube, a 1/2in Leiberkuhn. An objective iris, a pair of low power and medium power eyepieces, a pair high power eyepiece, a monocular body tube, a substage Wenham-type parabolic condenser. An achromatic substage condenser signed 'Powell & Lealand'. A substage darkwell holder and 3 darkwells. A substage polariser. An analyser. A substage set of 3 selenites in rotating frames. A brass frame holding Calcspar, Topaz & Aragonite. A brass frame holding Nitre, Quartz & Borax. A micrometer slide A Livebox. Stage forceps. A set of brass forceps. A leather case with a binocular prism engraved 'Powell & Lealand N.44 PATENT' A leather case with a binocular prism engraved 'For Low Powers & Opaque Objects' All in the original French polished mahogany cabinet with keys. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
