Alexander Fisher Arts & Crafts copper repoussé plaque, 1902 Copper on oak, the planished and chased surface decorated with narrative scenes chronicling the perils of drink and upholding the virtue of moderation, inscribed DRINK NOT THE GLASS WHICH THOU CANST NOT TAME, WHEN ONCE IT IS WITHIN THEE BUT BEFORE, MAYST RULE IT AS THOU LIST AND POUR THE SHAME, WHICH IT WOULD POUR ON THEE UPON THE FLOOR!, IT IS MOST JUST THROW THAT ON THE GROUND, WHICH WOULD THROW ME THERE I KEEP THE ROUND. 118 cm high, 153.5 cm wide, 7 cm deep Signed and dated to the bottom right corner A. Fisher, 1902 Footnotes: Footnote Alexander Fisher was an English metalsmith and painter active in the Arts and Crafts movement in London. He became a teacher at the Slade School of Art and wrote a treatise on the art of enamelling upon metal with a short appendix concerning miniature painting before later travelling to France to learn the actual techniques in Limoges. On his return, he set up a studio in London where he took on a number of pupils including Nelson Dawson and Ernestine Mills. The Victorian and Albert Museum now contains archival material including decorated objects and paintings by Fisher in its permanent collection. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
