2nd West York Militia Officers ""Albert"" shako plate circa 1844-55. A very fine and scarce gilt example. Crowned star mounted with a pierced strap inscribed ""2nd West York Militia"" ; with silver rose mounted to domed gilt centre. Mounted on the star between the crown and the strap, the silver numerals ""21"" . Two horizontal loops to reverse. Orb strengthened, minor fracture below crown otherwise VGC Raised originally in mid 17th century, reorganised in 1763 with HQ at York. Redesignated 2nd West York Light Infantry in January 1853; became 3rd Bn. West Yorkshire Regiment Friday 1st July 1881.
