Marines 18th Century George III OfficerÕs silver gorget.

A very fine rare ÒsteppedÓ example circa 1769-1802. The upper tier engraved with fouled anchor resting in an open laurel wreath, the lower engraved with pre 1800 Royal Arms, the crown flanked with ÒGRÓ. The rim of the crescent formed over a wire frame. VGC

His Majesty`s Marine Forces, formed 5th April 1755, wore gilt gorgets until 1769 when silver was adopted.
