Irish. Connaught Rangers Victorian OfficerÕs helmet plate circa 1881-1901.

A good gilt example. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the green velvet centre (now faded to brown) mounted with silver harp and separate ÒQuis SeparabitÓ scroll. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver tri-part scroll inscribed ÒThe Connaught RangersÓ . Three loops to reverse which has additional holes indicating previous use during the 1878-81 period. Gilt dull. GC (KK 281)

Following the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, the regimental Colours were received by HM King George V on 12th June at St. GeorgeÕs Chapel, Windsor Castle; formal disbandment followed on 31st July, 1922.
