3rd VB Suffolk Regiment OfficerÕs helmet plate circa 1887-1901.

A fine and scarce silvered example. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the black velvet centre mounted with silver two tower regimental castle surmounted by a scroll inscribed ÒGibraltarÓ; below, the Key and a scroll inscribed ÒMontis insignia calpeÓ. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver tri-part scroll inscribed ÒThe Suffolk RegimentÓ with supplementary scroll below inscribed Ò3rd Volunteer BattalionÓ. Two of three loops to reverse (pinched and reopened). CentreÕs securing wires absent and secured with solder otherwise generally VGC.

1st Cambridgeshire RVÕs became a VB of the Suffolk Regiment on Friday 1st July 1881 and were redesigned as 3rd (Cambridgeshire) VB in December 1887. Provenance. Ex Hugh King Collection, Bosleys December, Lot 112.
