South African. Uitenhage Rifles Victorian helmet plate circa 1894-1902.
A good scarce die-stamped white metal example. Within a crowned wreath, half of laurel, half of oak, the letters U V R with disc bearing arms. Across the base of the wreath, a scroll ÒUitenhage RiflesÓ. Two loops to reverse. VGC (Owen 293)
Raised 1894; became a company of Prince AlfredÕs Guard in 1913. Presented with a KingÕs Colour for service during the Boer War.
