54th (West Norfolk) Regiment of Foot ?Bell-Topped? Officer?s shako plate circa 1842-44. A splendid rare short-lived 2nd pattern gilt example. Large crowned star mounted with gilt laurel wreath in which rests a silver rope edged strap ?West Norfolk? surmounted by a Sphinx on an ?Egypt? tablet; to the seeded gilt centre, the numerals ?54?; beneath the wreath a scroll inscribed?Ava?. Two horizontal loops to reverse with two pairs of wires behind the crown. VGC Became 2nd Bn Dorsetshire Regiment on 1st July 1881.
