Scottish. 21st Royal North British Fusiliers `Albert` pattern Victorian Officer`s shako plate circa 1844-55.
An exceptionally fine and extremely scarce example. Large die-stamped gilt flaming grenade, the ball embossed with the Royal Arms. Retains two original loops to reverse as well as two later screw posts. VGC
August 1854 saw the regiment, under Frederick George Ainslie, embark at Cork for the Crimea where it landed with Sir George Cathcart`s Division. Fought at the Alma and with great distinction and heavy loss at Inkerman; it served through the siege of Sevastopol including the assault on the Redan of 18th June 1855. Embarked at Balaclava for Malta in June 1856. Provenance. Bosleys December 2004, Lot 160
