Scottish 1st Sutherland Highland Rifle Volunteer Corps Piper`s sporran cantle.
A good rare nickel plated example Centre mounted with St. Andrew and Cross resting on thistle sprays. Bottom edge with raised milled border. Two long stout loops to reverse. GC
Formed as 2nd Caithness RV at Wick 16th February 1861; part of 1st AB Sutherland RV. Consolidated in June 1880 as 1st Sutherland (Sutherland Highland ) Rifle Volunteer Corps, with ten companies (2nd Caithness forming H. Company). In 1881 the 1st Sutherland became a VB of the Seaforth Highlanders although never accorded its projected number of 2nd VB. Hugh King Collection
