A very fine scarce rich gilt example. Crowned star mounted with Garter with ornate end scroll Royal West Middx. across the tail. Silver domed centre ornamented with crimson translucent enamel Cross of St. George. Retains both original horizontal loops to reverse and the fixing wires behind the Crown. Minor restoration to enamel. VGC 1778, West Middlesex Militia raised at Uxbridge 1778; redesignated Royal West Middlesex Militia 1804, redesignated Royal West Middlesex Light Infantry 1852 and as Edmonton Royal Rifle Regiment of Middlesex Militia in 1853, eventually becoming 7th Battalion King s Royal Rifle Corps on Friday 1st July, 1881.
