Border Regiment Victorian Officer's helmet plate circa 1881-91.. A splendid rich gilt example. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and Garter, the centre with silver laurel wreath enclosing the Dragon surmounted by 'China' all on dead white enamel and translucent red enamel ground. Mounted on the base of the gilt wreath, an angular silver tri-part scroll inscribed 'The Border Regiment'; below, a further tri-part scroll inscribed 'Arroyo dos Molinos'. Three loops to reverse. Minor defect to enamel. VGC. In 1891 the helmet plate changed to the more usual pattern as KK 247.
