Royal Sussex Light Infantry Militia Victorian Officer's 'Albert' pattern shako plate circa 1844-55.. A very fine rare example. Rich gilt crowned star mounted with silver ornate strung bugle bearing Garter Star with gilt pierced motto on blue enamel ground and central Cross of St.George in red enamel (slightly defective). Beneath the bugle, an ornate ended silver scroll inscribed 'Royal Sussex'. Two horizontal loops to reverse and two pairs of wire behind the crown. VGC. Raised 29th June 1778 at Chichester. Redesignated Royal Sussex Light Infantry 1845; became 4th Bn. Royal Sussex Regt. on Friday 1st July 1881.
