Indian Army. 71st Bengal Native Infantry pre 1856 Officer’s shoulder belt plate.
A fine rare contemporary conversion. British made gilt rectangular plate mounted with silver Indian made overlay of crowned laurel wreath surrounding rope edged strap inscribed “Bengal Nat; Infantry”; “71” to gilt centre. Holes from previous overlay well plugged. Reverse with pair of hook and studs. Minor gilt loss. Crease mark to bottom right corner. GC Mutinied at Lucknow in 1857.
