A splendid rare example of modest proportions comprising a burnished gilt oval plate with applied raised beaded rim; mounted on the plate, a facetted silver Garter star; mounted on the star, a pierced gilt Garter on a blue enamel ground with red translucent enamel Cross of St.George to centre. Reverse with original fixings comprising two hooks and single central stud. Retains chamois liner which bears old ink inscription “Ensign Butler, Foot Guards”. VGC (Parkyn 65)
