Indian Army. 28th Madras Regiment of Native Infantry early 19th century Officer’s shoulder belt plate.

A very fine rare example. Gilt rectangular plate with canted corners mounted with silver Garter Star with gilt overlay comprising a crowned pierced rope edged star “Regiment: resting in a laurel wreath. Floreated XXVIII to centre; pierced tri-part scroll across the base of the wreath inscribed “Nagpoor Ava Mahidpoor”. Reverse with top hook and flat horizontal loop to base. Generally VGC. 28th disbanded between 1862 and 1864. became 88th Carnatic Infantry in the 1903 Kitchener reforms; disbanded in 1920.
