Indian Army. Madras Artillery pre 1856 Victorian Officer’s shoulder belt plate.

A splendid rare example. Rectangular gilt plate mounted with frosted gilt crowned “Madras Artillery” strap resting in a laurel wreath interlaced with scroll bearing battle honours; shield from Royal Arms to centre. Beneath the wreath, a scroll “Nagpoor” over a gun flanked by an elephant on “Assaye: tablet and Sphinx on “Egypt” tablet; below the gun, a tablet “Ava Java”. Reverse with pair of hooks and studs and retaining its leather liner. VGC The entire HEIC army was transferred from the Company to the Crown on 1st November 1858 as a result of the Indian Mutiny.
