Indian Army. 8th Madras Native Infantry pre 1856 Officer’s shoulder belt plate.
A fine rare example. Gilt rectangular plate with canted corners mounted with silver star with squared tips; mounted on the star, a gilt elephant topped circlet “Assaye Seringapatam”, floreated VIII to green cloth centre. Reverse with pair of hook and studs and stamped with maker’s compass logo and JG. Wear to gilt otherwise VGC.
