A very fine example by J & Co. (Jennens) bearing Birmingham hallmarks. Silver laurel wreath surmounted by a separate Crown. Laurel wreath bearing honour scrolls “Bhurtpore” “Aliwal” “Sobraon” “Tirah” “Punjab Frontier” “Afghanistan 1878-80”. To the centre, silver crossed kukris surmounted by “GRI” cypher; below the kukris a strung bugle surmounted by the numeral “1”. Below the wreath a scroll inscribed “King George’s Own Own Gurkha Rifles”. All mounted on a seeded backplate. Four screw posts to reverse, the backing plate. nuts and washers with matching hallmarks. Toned. VGC Became 1st Prince of Wales’s Own Gurkha Rifles in 1906 when he visited India, then 1st King George’s Own Gurkha Rifles when he ascended the throne upon Edward VII’s death in 1910.
