Born to a family of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania, the artist exhibited at important London galleries including the Wertheim Gallery in 1937, Leger Gallery in 1948 and the Ben Uri Gallery in 1947, 1950, 1959 and 1968. There was a recent exhibition of his work in his home neighbourhood of Hampstead at Burgh House, London in 2018.
