* MHAIRI CORR, WEE MAN

paper pulp sculpture, signed and dated 2015 to base

55cm tall

Note: Mhairi Corr is an established paper pulp artist. She studied at Glasgow School of Art and has exhibited her figurative work throughout the UK. Developing the medium of paper pulp was due to the intervention of a downstairs neighbour. Sounds of sawing and hammering wood in a tenement flat led to justifiable complaints. Necessity being the mother of Invention, figures started to evolve silently out of pulped paper instead of carved from wood. "The neighbour did me a favour. Paper Pulp is a more flexible medium. It is like a mixture of plasticine and mud, perfect for tuning into a child-like state of flow". 1996 Oppenheim-John Downes Memorial Award; 1995 Scottish Arts Council Award; 1982 BA Hons Fine Art, Glasgow School of Art; SOLO EXHIBITIONS INCLUDE : 2020 Stone Child, An Lanntair, Stornoway.; 2006 Mhairi Corr, The Rendezvous Gallery, Aberdeen; 2004 Archetypes, 20/21 Visual Arts, North Lincolnshire ( Touring ); 2000 Robust Individuals, Ruthin Crafts Centre, Denbighshire ( Touring ); 1997 Mhairi Corr, Aberdeen Art Gallery; 1995 Newspaper People, Gatehouse Gallery, Glasgow; RESIDENCIES : 2007 Blackfrairs Primary School, Gorbals, Glasgow. Artist in Residence.; 2004 Thomas Muir High School, Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, Artist in Residence.; 2003 Channel 4, Art Factory, Online Artist in Residence.
